Bestival Announces Fancy Dress Theme

added 28 May 2008 at 11.35

Stand by for what is likely to be the whackiest fancy dress party of the summer. The organisers of Bestival 2008 have announced the theme for this year's festival and it all smells a little fishy to us...

Tipping a nod to author Jules Verne's classic sci-fi novel '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea', this year's theme is to be - wait for it - '30,000 Freaks Under The Sea'.

Expect mermaids, sharks, stingrays and possibly a few Old Greg lookalikes as this year's Bestival attendees are encouraged to do their best to - ahem - dive into the nautical theme.

Said organiser Rob Da Bank: "We wracked our collective brains ‘til they turned to custard and eventually came up with '30,000 Freaks Under The Sea' - essentially another open-ended theme open to abuse and many different angles which we hope you'll follow!  This year we'll do a night parade as well as daytime one, so make sure you light up bright - calling all pesky squids, little urchins, deep sea divers and Yellow Submarines!"

This year's Bestival - which sold out in record time - will be held on September 5 - 7 at Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle Of Wight and will be graced by headline performances from My Bloody Valentine, Amy Winehouse and Underworld.
