Elbow on 'The Seldom Seen Kid'

Elbow's Guy Garvey came in to John Kennedy's studio to tell us about the band's fourth studio album 'The Seldom Seen Kid', taking us through it Track-by-Track.
Guy Garvey, Mark Potter, Craig Potter, Richard Jupp and Pete Turner have been making music since the early nineties. Since their debut album, 'Asleep In The Back' was released in 2001, Elbow have never been far away from the top of the charts, gaining critical acclaim for their particular brand of Mancunian indie-rock.
After the death of the band's close friend and Manchester legend Bryan Glancy, they decided to dedicate this, their fourth album, to his memory.
Guy, the band's frontman, came in to speak to John Kennedy about the ideas that influenced the album and to explain why it took them over two years to put together....[listen]
'Starlings'
"There's an element of my personality that's just a dirty old man sat in a restaurant falling in love with a waitress that's far too young for him..." [listen]
'The Bones Of You'
"One day I heard a piece of music that meant an awful lot to me, and felt really silly and lonely..." [listen]
'Mirrorball'
"If you're without somebody for long enough it's tempting to lose your faith that love exists, and then when it comes knocking again, I did actually physically feel taller..." [listen]
'Grounds For Divorce'
"The Seldom Seen Kid, was a way of talking about Bryan [Glancy's] passing without being to maudlin..." [listen]
'An Audience With The Pope'
"It's kind of sex vs Catholicism, I try to be as blasphemous as possible..." [listen]
'Weather To Fly'
"It's the band's favourite tune on the record because it's about the band." [listen]
'The Loneliness Of A Tower Crane Driver'
"It's about lonely people..." [listen]
'The Fix'

'Some Riot'

'One Day Like This'
"Ulitmately what comes out of this record, despite being about some dark subjects, is that it's a celebration of Bryan Glancy's life..." [listen]
'Friend Of Ours'
"It's a simple farewell to a good man..." [listen]
