Temper Trap Tour Diary

Find out what Temper Trap have been up to on their UK tour and see photos.

Day 1 - O2 Academy Bournemouth

Well back on the road again after being stuck in L.A because of the volcano in Iceland, and it's feeling really good. Big shows, more crew and new lights. We arrived at the beautiful O2 Academy Bournemouth early which meant me and Johnny could squeeze in a few games of skate which, after buying a new skateboard in the U.S, has been a pretty much daily ritual. For those of you that don't know, skate is when you have to do a trick and then each other person playing has to try to do it and if you don't you get a letter. Everyone is very competitive so it's always fun. Show was great and I think everyone is getting excited for our 3 night stint at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

Day 2 - O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

It's a pretty amazing achievement for us to be doing three nights at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, and we also need to make sure we have enough material to give everyone a good show, so today we spent most of our sound check coming up with some new parts to extend some of our songs. All the new parts worked well tonight and the show was great except for a few technical difficulties, but hey that's rock and roll. After the show we had the pleasure of seeing our first piece of counterfeit merchandise that was being sold outside. The t-shirt was terrible but funny all the same.

Day 3 - O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

Today we had a session for Live From Studio Five which was pretty straight forward, then back over to Shepherd’s Bush for some more practice. The show went really well tonight - I think we played a great set and as it was Toby's birthday, during the encore we managed to get the whole audience to sing him happy birthday which was pretty epic. I also managed to cut up my hand during drum song due to a broken tambourine, so all and all a fun night.

Day 4 - O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

Today was a very relaxing day with all of us taking the morning off and then having a few hours of some jam time. The show tonight was the best of the three and everyone was in high spirits, especially for the after party!

Day 5 - Cardiff

None of us have been to Cardiff before so everyone was interested to go and have a look around. The weather was pretty dull but me, Dougy and Lorenzo managed to go into town and have a look around at some of the beautiful old buildings and the Cardiff castle which is one of the finest castles I've seen yet. Finally managed to catch all of our support act’s set tonight, which was great. Sarah Blasko is really big in Australia and I think we are all feeling like we should be supporting her, so it's great she's on the tour.

Day 7 - O2 Academy Birmingham

Birmingham was the biggest show on the tour with 3000 people coming to see us, I think the last time we played here was to about 300 people so we are all totally stocked. We also found out today that our whole tour has sold out so out comes the champagne.

Day 8 - Norwich

Today Johnny and I were taking a walk and talking about feathers because Johnny is an avid collector of feathers and just as we walked around the corner sticking out of a sign where two pheasant feathers, it was very strange but great for johnny who got another one for his collection.

Another game of skate was also had except this time Johnny really hurt his leg so I think the games will have a rest for a while.

Day 9 - Manchester

All these venues are made for skateboarding, just big empty rooms with smooth concrete. On the way to the gym Johnny got harassed by four drunk tough guys who said he looked like a skinny sumo. It's over half way through the tour now and everyone is starting to get a bit sick which always seems to happen around this time but hopefully a massive dose of vitamins and keeping out of the cold will cure what ails us.

Day 10 – O2 Academy Newcastle

Toby, having got back into the skateboarding club as well, brought himself a new skateboard today, I think by the end of this trip we are all going to have new set ups and maybe even a few broken bones.

The crowd reaction tonight was by far the best of the tour and the crowd outside the venue waiting for autographs was also the biggest, it was a pretty crazy sight.
It's been really good on this tour because unlike all our previous UK tours which we did in a splitter van and arrived at the venue a few hours before we played, this time around we have the bus and arrive early in the morning so you really get a chance to explore each city which makes a big difference.
