X-clusive: Prodigy Man’s Solo Debut Revealed

added 02 July 2003 at 05.29

Prodigy frontman’s Keith Flint’s new hard rock band Flint will be playing their first UK date in London next month. Xfm spoke to him about the project and has all the exclusive details right here.

The new outfit was formed by Keith (vocals and guitars) and ex-Pitchshifter guitarist Jim Davies and they – alongside with a bassist and two drummers – have just completed a debut album with famed Killing Joke producer Youth.

“I got a live rehearsal room in my house,” explained Flint, “With bass, drums and guitars, and we’d been jamming stuff out for about a year, and I found out what you can create in a little room with a lot of noise. Everyone wants to play guitar at some point don’t they?”

The band will be releasing a limited edition of 2,000 copies of their first single ‘Asteroids’ on 10’ vinyl sometime in May, and the video for the track has been directed by Jonas Akerlund, who made the Prodigy's controversial promo for 'Smack My Bitch Up'. And Flint insists that while the band may be less electronic than the Prodigy, the music is no less intense.

“We all work better at high velocity,” Flint continued, “If you put an acoustic ballad near Jim he breaks out in spots. We just needed to put total energy into the music, its still got heart and soul, it’s not just blatant abuse, there’s still a little intelligence and melody in it”

When asked about the highly anticipated album from the Prodigy, ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’, Flint seemed to think it may be released before the end of the year (though we’ve heard that before), saying,

“It’ll take as long as it does. He’s [Liam HowlettProdigy producer] getting it right. There’s no point rushing it. It’s out there, being done and being done right and it’ll be out at the end of summer.”

Flint have also completed a reworking of Marilyn Manson's new single ‘mOBSCENE’, effectively reworking the tune as “one of their own songs, leaving only a bit of Manson’s vocals and making it this mammoth rock track”.

Xfm Online can also reveal that Flint will be playing their first ever gig at the Scala in Kings Cross London on June 11.
