Ashcroft – “Verve Will Never Reunite”

added 02 July 2003 at 05.29

As Richard Ashcroft readies himself for the release of his new single ‘Buy It In Bottles’ and an upcoming Royal Albert Hall charity gig, the ex-Verve singer has stated he will never reform his old band.

Ashcroft releases ‘Buy It In Bottles’, the third single from his second solo album ‘Human Conditions’, on April 7 and as previously reported makes his first UK live performance of 2003 on March 26 at the third annual teenage cancer trust event at the Royal Albert Hall.

However, the singer has stated that the much-rumoured Verve reunion that many fans have been hoping for is out of the question.

"No, I can't ever see a Verve reunion.” He explained in an interview quoted in 94.7 Zone, “I've never done things like anyone else does them, and that's what everybody does --they get a reunion together -and I've got no desire to do that purely because it would just be a financial venture.”

“It wouldn't be because I felt there was unfinished business musically. That was our time, that was our moment, and it's gone."

Elsewhere ex-Verve guitarist Simon Tong has joined Blur as their new live replacement for departed fret-wrangler Graham Coxon.

‘Buy It In Bottles’ is released on April 7 and will be available on CD (featuring two new tracks), DVD (featuring live footage and an alternative video) and limited edition 7” vinyl (featuring a circular bit of plastic with music magically hidden in it).

The full tracklistings and formats are:

CD: ‘Buy It In Bottles’, ‘Don't Take Me In’, ‘The Journey's Just Begun’, ‘Buy It In Bottles (Video)’ DVD: ‘Buy It In Bottles’ (Album Version)’, ‘Buy It In Bottles (Alternative Video)’, ‘Buy It In Bottles (Live Performance Footage)’ 7": ‘Buy It In Bottles’, ‘Don't Take Me In’
