Xfm's Feel Good Hit Of The Summer

'Here Comes The Sun', 'Summer of 69', 'Summer Breeze', 'Staying Out For The Summer', 'Summer In The City', 'Wake Up Boo', California Girls', the list of classic Summer tunes goes on and on. But where's this year's anthem?
Nto that long ago, Christian formed Twisted X, a crack team of musicians and vocalists including Supergrass drummer Danny Goffey, ex-Suede axe-man Bernard Butler, Delays and Libertine Carl Barat who recorded 'Born in England', Xfm's Euro 2004 anthem that crashed into the Top Ten back in June last year.
Now, Christian has released that what this Summer is missing is an anthem of its own. An uptempo, rousing musical classic to rank along with the songs listed above. With your help, Twisted X will perform and release the track, but we want you to write it. The number one position can be ours!
So far we've enlisted the mighty Chas & Dave, Turin Brakes and Xfm's very own Lauren Laverne, and we can expect a host of stars to join in, in the coming days.
Just make a demo of your own (original composition) Summer song. You can make a full 24 track recording in a studio or you can smack a couple of baked bean tins together and shout into a walkman in your Nan's kitchen. As long as your demo feel like the sort of Summer classic we've been talking about, we do not give a monkeys.
How To Enter
- Send your demo (on CD, minidisc, tape, wax cylinder or anything - we don't mind) to: Feel Good Hit Of The Summer, The Breakfast Show, Xfm, PO Box 1049, London, WC2H 7XX.
- YOU MUST download, fill in, sign and send the entry form with your demo. Even if you email your demo, you must put a completed entry form in the post. To download this just right click here and select 'Save Target As'. We can't accept any entries unless they have signed this. So don't forget.
- All the entries must be received before Friday June 24 and the winner as judged by the Breakfast Show Team will be announced on Monday June 27.
- The song will then be immortalised in the recording studio by Christian and his all-star team, played out on Xfm as the anthem for the Summer, then released and hopefully sent hurtling to the top of the charts. Last time Twisted X caressed the Top 10 going straight in at Number 9. This time we aim for Numero Uno.
- The competition is open right NOW so get writing and recording.
- What are you waiting for?
- All proceeds from the single's release will be donated to the Live Aid Trust. So there's absolutely no reason not to get involved.
To put our listeners in the mood and to stimulate their Summery vreative juices, Christian and the Breakfast Show team have been playing out some special musical Summer montages, to give you some inspiration. For instance....
Summer Montage 1 [listen] - A collection of the big classics, The Beach Boys, Dodgy, The Beatles, The Boo Radleys, Will Smith and Bryan Adams Essential.
Summer Montage 2 [listen] - But let's not forget Sir William Of Idol, The Isely Brothers, Mungo Jerry, and MORE BRYAN ADAMS! A little more obscure but still worth a listen.
