Last Week's Video Jukebox

See Idlewild gradually emerge from obscurity for 'I Understand It' and The Killers deliver some haunting melodies on 'Smile Like You Mean It'. Plus check out new videos from glossy art punks El Presidente, the disarmingly charming Art Brut and Viva Voce.

Idlewild 'I Understand It'
[Dial-Up] [Broadband]

Still eschewing the more populist school of promo video making, 'I Understand It' is set in a dusty attic room as opposed to, say, a school gym packed with buff teens. As an obviously disappointed Roddy Woomble emerges from the ether, the rest of the band also begin to appear out of nothing, much like the Embrace album of the same name. Pretty, but smacks slightly of a director who's just found a new wipe effect on his iBook

The Killers 'Smile Like You Mean It'
[Dial-Up] [Broadband]

Not, ironically, smiling at all, The Killers are lounging around a rather shabby looking house. Now there's some kind of party going on, Brandon's wandering up to the jelly... Oh! the band are ghosts haunting the house, much as the ghost of Shed Seven is haunting the music. But who are the real ghosts?

El Presidente '100 mph'
[Dial-Up] [Broadband]

Sexy, cool and inventive, El Presidente's first foray onto cellulloid kicks off with a lovely video wall effect. It's liking watching about three different vids at once in TopShop. Before long this breaks down into a series of boxes, with the band crammed into each frame like some kind of crazy musical dolls house for arty indie outfits. A daring commentary on the isloation of the individual and their lack of social mobility on modern societies

Art Brut 'Emily Kane'
[Dial-Up] [Broadband]

An infectiously gleeful love story from one of the best new bands around - frontman Eddie Argos still loves Emily Kane, his childhood girlfriend (hopefully in a nostalgic, first-love kind of way rather than a digging-fifteen year-old-girls way) and this tells the tale via 'Wonder Years'-style home video footage and shots of the band in a white room (with no curtains). Brilliant.

Vive Voce 'The Centre of The Universe'
[Dial-Up] [Broadband]

Kicks off with some cutesey '70s animation before descending into some shots of hippies (judging by their clothes it's either from the '70s or San Francisco or both). Sun-kissed Americana on a stick follows, culminating in a Hippy playing a double-necked guitar on the roof of a VW van while another Hippy waves flares around. Careful of your beard, Hippy!
