White Stripes Unveil Album Details

Following the confirmation of their Glastonbury appearance, The White Stripes reveal the details of their new album ‘Get Behind Me Satan’. And find out when you can hear their new single on Xfm!
As previously reported, information about The White Stripes’ new single was (presumably accidentally) leaked on the band’s UK record label website (April 5). It was then confirmed that the single would be titled ‘Blue Orchid’.
Now full details of the band’s fifth album have emerged. The new 13 track release is to be called ‘Get Behind Me Satan’ which is due for US release on June 7 (indicating a UK release
date of June 6).
The new album was recorded at frontman Jack White's Third Man Studios in his hometown of Detroit. As with ‘Elephant’ - which was made at Toe Rag studios in London - the recording was done on vintage analogue studio equipment with the whole record being recorded in a reported three weeks.
White has written all the tracks on the record (“on piano, acoustic guitar and marimba” according to a Rolling Stone report) and describes it as and the album as an “exploration of characters and the ideal of truth”. It features no guest performers or collaborations and while drummer Meg White once again contributes vocals to one song, it's currently unknown which one.
The band has also launched a new official website for the album at www.getbehindmesatan.com which features a detail from the single cover [above] of a Meg look-a-like holding a white apple. Weird.
The band are expected to announce North American and European tour date shortly, but are playing shows in Mexico, Central America, South America and the Glastonbury Festival over the next two months.
If you want to hear the new single ‘Blue Orchid’ it will get its first play on Xfm on Tuesday April 19 from 9am on the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show.
