Stereophonics Introduce New Drummer

added 07 December 2004 at 11.16

Following the somewhat unceremonious firing of original tub thumper Stuart Cable back in September 2003, Sterophonics have finally announced details of their new drummer.

According to a new statement released this morning (December 7), Stereophonics have recruited a new drummer following the sacking of Stuart Cable. The new member of the band will be Argentinean Javier Weyler, who will take up his duties behind the drum kit immediately.

According to the statement the band first met Javier when they were recording demos for their last album 'You Gotta Go There To Come Back' and then again in late 2003 when they were visiting Argentina, both occasions seem rather eventful.

"We were at this club, it was rockin', everyone having a good time, and then the owner invited us to this private house party where lots of musicians go there to play - three floors, each floor getting darker and a little seedier the higher up they got. That's where we met Javier." Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones explained.

“We already knew him from London, he'd worked at Big Sahara studios in Fulham, he assisted on 'You Gotta Go There' demos, so we had a few drinks together. After a couple of hours, the police raided the house, because the guy never had a license for the cash machines he'd installed for the lap dancers and other things for sale on site.

“Of course us being the tourists, we got taken away first so there was about ten of us in a room, not unlike a police cell, at the police station. They let us all go after about five hours of hanging around and questions, so me, Javier and Rich [Richard JonesStereophonics bassist] went for some breakfast at this other place down the road, where they have bands play 24/7 and we ended up jamming for the first time, to 'Tommy Gun' by The Clash.

“The following April 2004, they met again, when Kelly started writing demos at Big. Javier once again was assisting, but he just happened to have his drum kit at the studio, he was painting it. Javier jammed on the demos, and it just clicked.”

Stereophonics are currently putting the final touches to their fifth album 'Language. Sex. Violence. Other?' which is due for release early in 2005, and some live dates are expected around the same time.
