Gallagher And Albarn Confirmed For Band Aid

added 21 October 2004 at 15.05

Following earlier reports that Coldplay, Travis and The Darkness have been approached to feature on a new re-recording of the Band Aid hit ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ comes the news that Brit Pop’s two biggest arch rivals will both be taking part.

For weeks, rumours have been circulating that a new version of the song is being planned featuring a whole host of current acts (the third time the single has been released). In fact, bookies were already making it odds-on favourite to top the Christmas charts before the single's release was confirmed.

Whereas the original version was coordinated by Sir Bob Geldof, this time co-founder of Band Aid, Midge Ure will be acting as executive producer on the record and has been trying to assemble the artists.

While some reports claim Coldplay, Travis, The Darkness and Jamelia are already confirmed, Ure has just stated in an interview with 6Music that two of the UK music scenes biggest stars, Oasis' Noel Gallagher and Blur's Damon Albarn will be putting aside their differences to appear on the track.

Midge went on to confirm that Band Aid III will be happening in an undisclosed London studio sometime in the next few weeks with Radiohead, Beck and Travis producer Nigel Godrich handling production duties.

Robbie Williams, Keane and Dido have all been approached and Midge also explained that he intends to get Bono from U2 to re-sing his line "Well tonight, thank God it's them, instead of you…" from the original 1984 version of the song.
