X-clusive: Green Day To Play Brits 2005

Following the success of their chart-topping album 'American Idiot' and yesterday's announcement of their first UK tour for two years, Xfm Online can exclusively reveal the band are already confirmed to play at The Brit Awards 2005.
The godfathers of punk-pop Green Day have confirmed that, while the ceremony may not be until February, they will be gracing the stage at the UK's annual music industry bash, The Brit Awards 2005.
The award show comes toward the end of their recently announced first tour of the UK and Ireland for two years to celebrate the massive success of their current album 'American Idiot'. Topping both the UK and US album charts in their first week of release, the album and single of the same name have been selling extremely well and has been widely acclaimed as the band's most accomplished record since their major-label debut 'Dookie'.
“We didn’t really tour much for our last record,” Armstrong admitted recently to Xfm's Ian Camfield. “But this album has probably been two years in the making. We knew we wanted to shake things up with the band and [what we were doing] just grew and evolved into something.
“'American Idiot' definitely has political overtones,” he continued “But it’s still about personal relationships. Saying that, whenever American politics is shaky, it’s always a good time for music. Since day one of the Bush office I knew I’d start writing more politically…But [while the record’s about the Bush administration] I can’t see it dating too quickly – there’ll never be a lack of rednecks in the U.S.A.”
The album ‘American Idiot’ is out now, while the next single, 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams', will be released on November 22.
Tickets for the shows go on sale this Saturday (October 16) and will cost £22.50 (£23.50 in London).
