Libertines Hit Number One And Reveal New Single

Fresh from their somewhat critically mauled performances at the Carling Reading and Leeds Weekender festivals, and on the eve of sometime frontman Pete Doherty’s sentencing The Libertines can take solace in a an almost certain number 1 album on Sunday.
Following yet another no show for estranged co-frontman Pete Doherty at the Carling Weekender, Xfm can report that The Libertines’ new self titled album has rocketed to Number 1 in the official UK midweek albums charts.
While the album won’t officially be number 1 until after four more days album sales have been collated and the charts are revealed on Sunday (September 5), but Xfm can report that their sophomore album by the band is outselling the number two album by almost two copies to one.
We can also report that The Libertines' next single will be album finale 'What Became Of The Likely Lads', which is due for release on Monday October 18.
Meanwhile, Doherty is expected in court again today (Wednesday September 2), where he will be sentenced after pleading guilty to possession of an offensive weapon.
Doherty claimed the knife was a present for a friend and wasn't a weapon but at his last court appearance the presiding judge claimed a custodial sentence wasn’t out of the question.
