Doherty No Show Part II

added 04 August 2004 at 10.03

Estranged Libertine Peter Doherty has issued an apology for his Bar Fly no-show on Monday (August 2). As previously reported on Xfm Online, the singer was due to appear at London’s Camden Barfly but due to an alleged altercation with security, cancelled the show at the last minute.

"Pete Doherty would like to apologise to everyone who turned up to The Barfly in Camden last night (Monday the 2nd of August),” a statement to the NME reads, "Pete turned up at the venue at 11pm with his guitar tech and encountered problems at the door. A doorman refused to let the tech in and…a number of fans who had gathered at the entrance."

"We have played at venues up and down the country on this tour," Doherty explains, "Some of which had no security, and have encountered no problems or witnessed any aggression. I simply asked the bouncer last night to
apologise for his behaviour, three times in fact, and he refused. I was very upset at his attitude and although i'm very sorry for letting everyone down last night, I refuse to play at venues where pumped up, 16 stone men feel the need to be aggressively rude and to bully teenage kids around."

Doherty was also due to appear with friend Wolfman last night (August 3) at London’s Scala. However, a packed out venue were disappointed once more by the singer’s no-show. Reports suggest that whilst Wolfman put a great deal into the show, his efforts seemed in vain as at times he was almost drowned out by boos and shouts for Doherty

While the rest of the band are currently on promotional duties in the Far East (including a performance at last weekend’s Fuji Rock Festival) Doherty has been playing a handful of solo UK dates.

Doherty has pulled The Camden Barfly date on Friday August 6, but will continue on the acoustic UK tour alongside Dot Allison, Selfish Cunt and Andrew Avling of The White Sport on the last two dates in Bristol and Shrewsbury. A new London Date will announced in the very near future.

The remaining dates are as follows:

  • Bristol Louisiana (August 4)
  • Shrewsbury The Albert (5)
  • London - venue tbc (6)
