Seminal rockers MC5 (or DKT/MC5 as they're currently known) have announced a string of special guest guitarists and vocalists for their summer world tour. The legendary punks have confirmed a sizeable trek that includes three UK dates.

Kicking off on June 9 in Toronto, the 1966 line-up of Michael Davis, Wayne Kramer and Dennis 'Machine Gun' Thompson will play 29 shows across the US and Canada followed by dates in Australia, Japan and Europe.

The three surviving members will be joined on stage by The Hellacopters' Nicke Royale for their appearances at their three UK shows including the Carling weekend and a headline set at the Glasgow Garage on August 31.

Elsewhere, singer/songwriter Marshall Crenshaw and ex-Screaming Tree and Queens Of The Stone Age singer Mark Lanegan join the band in North America, Radio Birdman's Deniz Tek, Mudhoney's Mark Arm and Lemonhead Evan Dando become honouree MC5s in Australia and The Hives' Howlin' Pele Almqvist will be howling in Japan.

To mark the occaision, the band will release a DVD entitled 'Sonic Revolution : A Celebration Of The MC5' on July 6 featuring footage from the band's show at London's 100 Club last March (which at the time was their first UK show since 1972) plus a host of other archive extras including previously suppressed footage of the band's appearance at the 1968 Democratic National Convention which was covertly shot by the FBI.

  • Leeds Festival (29)
