New Chili Peppers Album Set For Release

added 27 May 2004 at 11.01

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced details of a new album currently set for a summer release, Anthony's forthcoming autobiography and the support acts due to support the band for their UK shows.

The Chili Peppers will be releasing a live record this summer recorded at their London Hyde Park shows. Currently, the album is only set to be released in Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand and is tentatively pencilled in for an August 2 release.

While the album is likely to be based on a greatest hits set, the inclusion of new material has not been ruled out. While two new tracks appeared on the recent 'Greatest Hits' album, the band were also working on at least two other new tracks around the same period that may feature on the release.

The band have also confirmed the support acts for their June UK shows. Appearing alongside the band will be soul legend James Brown, Neptunes live incarnation N*E*R*D as well as New York hopefuls Stellastarr* and Chicks on Speed. Another special guest will be announced for the Edinburgh show on June 9.

In other Chili news, singer Anthony Kiedis' long awaited autobiography, 'Scar Tissue' is to hit the shops soon. The book documents Kiedis' own life and the history of the band from his childhood in LA to his year's struggling with drug addiction to the present day. Here is a short excerpt from the publication:

"One day I showed up to rehearsal and Jack and Hillel and Flea, who probably loved me more than any three guys on earth, said, "Anthony, we're kicking you out of the band. We want to play music and you obviously don't, so you have to go. We're going to get a different singer and we're going to go on so you're out of here.

"I had a brief moment of clarity where I realized that they had every right in the world to fire me. It was really an obvious move, like cutting off your damn foot because it was gangrened so that the rest of your body wouldn't die.

"I just wanted to be remembered and acknowledged for those two or three years that I had been in the Red Hot Chili Peppers as a founding member, a guy who started something, a guy who made two records, and whatever else would come after that, that was theirs. Part of me was very genuine in letting go of the band. But part of what made it so easy for me to accept was that now I knew I had zero responsibilities and I could just go off with Kim and get loaded.

"Much to their amazement I just shrugged and said, "You guys are right. I apologize for not contributing what I should have been contributing this whole time. It's a crying shame, but I understand completely and I wish you guys the best of luck."
