Triple Crowned! Xfm Clears Up At Radio Oscars!

Xfm Breakfast Show host Christian O’Connell proved once again exactly who rules the roost as he picked up three Gold Sony Awards and a Silver Award at the annual radio ceremony, while Music:Response’s Ian Camfield also picked up a Silver gong.
The winners of the 23rd Sony Radio Academy Awards, the UK’s most prestigious radio accolades, were announced last night (May 9) at London’s Grosvenor House and we’re proud to announce that Xfm’s Christian O’Connell added to his previous haul of Sony wins with three Gold Awards and one Silver.
Christian triumphed over the competition to pick up Breakfast Show Of The Year (presented by ex-Suede man Brett Anderson) with the judges noting he "Sets the standard for brilliant, funny and relevant contemporary music radio at breakfast time. There is a touch of ‘genius’ to Christian’s approach to improvisation and presentation that really sets him apart."
He also won The Entertainment Award (presented by Shakin’ Stevens - pictured), pushing Radio 2’s Jonathan Ross into second place, and The Competition Award for the success story that was Rock School. He also picked up a Silver Award for DJ of the year, pipped at the post by the BBC’s Danny Baker.
As well as the Gold, Silver and Bronze Winners of the 32 categories, The Special Award was presented to Commercial Radio, for the groundbreaking UK Radio Aid for the Tsunami Appeal of which all the Capital radio stations were a part.
