The second annual UK Music Hall Of Fame saw (amongst others) New Order, John Peel and Black Sabbath joined the list of 2004 inductees

Moving from the Hackney Empire to the opulent setting of London’s Alexandra Palace, last night (November 17) Dermot O’Leary presented the 2005 UK Music Hall Of Fame induction ceremony which saw performances from new inductees New Order, Black Sabbath and Eurythmics while a host of younger stars paid tribute to the legends.

The Pretenders welcomed The Kinks into the Hall Of Fame with a cover of the classic ‘Waterloo Sunset’, while a supergroup featuring Guns ‘n’ Roses guitarist Slash, Steve Winwood and original Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell paid tribute to the late Jimi Hendrix.

Amongst those propping up the bar in the VIP area included such luminaries as Woody Harrelson, Damon Albarn, Shaun Ryder, Sir Bob Geldof, Pete Townsend, The Buzzcocks and the man who growled his way through Aretha Franklin’s ‘Respect’: Jamie ‘Gurning Jazz Hobbit' Cullum

Also on the bill was a performance by another supergroup featured on the forthcoming Amnesty International charity single ‘Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve)?’ including New Order’s Peter Hook, The Buzzcocks and various members of The Datsuns, El Presidente and friends.

The track closed the show as a tribute to the late DJ John Peel, this year’s non-musician inductee.

The whole show airs tonight (November 17) on Channel 4 at 9pm.

The full list of 2005 inductees that now join – deep breath – Elvis, The Beatles, Queen, Cliff and The Shadows, Michael Jackson, U2, Bob Marley, Robbie Williams, and The Rolling Stones, are as follows:

  • Ozzy Osbourne / Black Sabbath
  • Eurythmics
  • Aretha Franklin

  • The Who
  • Pink Floyd
